BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — A food pantry put together through a selfless act opens to the public in Kern County Friday. It's called Sister Josie's Food Pantry.

It is located at 107 17th Street and it opened at 10 a.m.

Sister Josephine Marie Gonzales passed away in October but before she did she and the Sisters of Mercy donated $2,000 to get the food pantry started.

After the opening ceremony, the pantry will be distributing 75 three-day food packages in a drive-thru-style set-up.

The food pantry will be open on a weekly basis.
