State Lieutenant Governor and candidate for governor Gavin Newsom said in an online post that the state of California is producing more jobs than homes.
Newsom said the state needs to work toward building 3.5 million homes by 2025. If elected, he promised to work to expand the low-income housing tax credit program by $500 million to fund more affordable homes.
A 2016 analysis showed that California would have to increase production from 100,000 new homes a year to 378,000.
