BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The next phase of demolition for the 24th Street Widening Project is scheduled for next week.
According to the Bakersfield Public Works Office, the contractor is doing lead and asbestos abatement this week ahead of the next phase on Monday.

The 24th Street widening project has been heavily contested by residents in the area. Many of them are worried about the noise, dirt, and traffic that result from this type of construction work.
Just last month, the first phase of the project began. Demolition took place and green-lined fences were placed along the homes that face 24th Street.
