(UPDATE 8:30 A.M.) The California Highway Patrol reported Highway 43 has reopened in both directions following a crash at Jack Avenue outside of Shafter.
An injury crash involving a pickup truck and a big rig has led to the closure of northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 43 on Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the vehicles collided just after 6 a.m. outside of Shafter. CHP reported the semi-truck was attempting to make a U-turn when the pickup approached and smashed into the trailer.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained major injuries during the crash and was airlifted to Kern Medical.

It's not known how long lanes will be blocked.
