A group of Northwest Bakersfield residents came together to raise money for a Walmart Market employee who takes the bus and walks to work every day.

Kevin Minikwu's job at Walmart is to wrangle shopping carts, but he says his priority is to make people happy.

Northwest Bakersfield residents raised thousands of dollars to show their appreciation for his kindness.

“Just smiling at you regardless of the weather conditions and how many hours he has been on his feet," said Lilly Wright. "What it took him to get to work and he is consistently positive, consistently kind to everyone regardless of age or background.”

They set up a GoFundMe that has since raised over $5000. Wednesday night, about a hundred customers surprised Kevin with a check.

“It's something I never thought would have ever happened for them to do this," said Kevin. "This is amazing. This is love.”
