Nurses to benefit from new over time bill

Posted

Hoping to make a difference, union members of SEIU local 1000 set up shop this morning in front of the Kern State Prison in Delano, in support of assembly bill 8-40.

A bill that would eliminate mandatory overtime for nurses and nursing assistants in state prisons and mental hospitals.

In 2001, California’s industrial welfare commission banned mandatory overtime for nurses in the private sector, but the ban didn't include public sector workers.

AB 8-40 would extend the protection to the public sector and include nurses who work in state prisons and mental hospitals.
