ARVIN, Calif. — On Wednesday, December 5 at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers from the Arvin Police Department responded near 900 Wernli Court to a report of spousal abuse.

After arriving, officers made contact with a Hispanic man, approximately 26 years old inside the home. The man was holding some type of stabbing object in his hand which officers believed was a knife.

According to police, the man ignored officers commands to drop the object and continued to advance. Officers then used their tasers to no effect and proceeded to pull their service weapons as the man continued to approach.

Officers then fired their weapons several times, striking the man. Medical aid was brought to the scene, but the man was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Kern County District Attorney's Office.

Identification of the man is pending identification by the coroner.
