Officials advise drivers to avoid area near 24th St. due to open sinkhole

According to the City of Bakersfield, the sinkhole was spotted on the north side of a k-rail just east of Cedar Street. Public Works reported that the road has not failed at this time and is still intact.

Officials said the lane closure is not expected to last beyond the evening of Wednesday.

On Wednesday, city officials reported a sinkhole that opened on 24th Street.

According to Public Works Department, crews have closed one westbound lane near F Street to repair the road due to the sinkhole.

City officials said the sinkhole, which is eight to 10 feet in diameter is not located on the road.

Officials are also advising drivers to avoid the area as much as possible while crews fix the damage. It is not clear at this time how long the lane will be closed or what caused the sinkhole.
