BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Officials rescued a man who was trapped in industrial equipment in Southwest Bakersfield shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Kern County Fire Department, the man sustained significant injuries when his arm was crushed within machinery described as a potato harvester near Old River and McCutchen roads.

Multiple employees working on the site called authorities around 7:20 p.m., prompting several agencies to respond.

KCFD, Urban Search and Rescue and the Bakersfield Fire Department managed to separate the man from the equipment nearly an hour after they arrived.

KCFD Batallion Chief Shawn Whittington said the man sustained significant injuries, but is expected to survive.
