Oildale residents meet for Flashlight Walk

Posted

The Oildale Neighborhood Watch is trying to change the negative reputation the community is known for.

On Wednesday night, the group met to host their second Flashlight Walk.

Almost 20 members walked from North Chester to Oildale Drive. They walked to raise awareness and let the community know that there is a group, aside from the authorities that is looking out for criminal activity.

During the walk, the group ran into a woman who was lighting candles at a cross. She says her husband was stabbed and killed in 2013, where the memorial now stands. She thinks the group is a good idea.

Group members say the relationship with law enforcement has improved because now they have contacts that they can call when they see any illegal activity.

The hope is that the group will grow and that Oildale will slowly get better.
