BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A fatal traffic collision took place on the Northbound Highway 99 just after 4 a.m. Sunday.

California Highway Patrol officers said they responded to the 99 just north of Highway 119 for a big rig rollover.

The big rig stuck the rear of a Volkswagen Jetta and both vehicles went off the road.

The driver of the Jetta died at the scene and the big rig driver suffered moderate to major injuries.

As of 7:48 a.m. Sunday, the northbound on ramp and slow lane from highway 119 were closed down.
