UPDATE: The driver who died in the accident has been identified as 40-year-old Amy Ruiz.

One person died after a car crash Saturday morning.

Just after 5:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to McKee Road, just west of Racine Avenue for an injury accident.

When officers arrived they found an adult female driver suffering from major injuries. The driver was extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel and declared dead.

Officials said after further investigation, they determined the female driver was driving the maroon sedan westbound in the eastbound lane of McKee Road for unknown reasons at an unknown speed.

The driver of the sedan drove head on into a gardening truck pulling a gardening trailer. The driver of the gardening truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Officials said it is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs are a contributing factor in the collision.

The intersection of McKee Road and Racine Avenue was closed for several hours due to the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call BPD at 327-7111.
