UPDATE (Sept. 18, 12:00 p.m.) : The Coroner has identified a man killed in South Bakersfield crash as 75-year-old Michael Thomas Costa of Bakersfield.

One man is dead after being hit by a car while riding a power scooter in south Bakersfield.

Officers with the Bakersfield Police Department were sent to the 4400 block of Hughes Lane at around 5:40 p.m. on Saturday and found a man suffering from major injuries.

The investigation revealed the man was struck by a northbound vehicle near the railroad tracks. The driver is cooperating with officers and it's unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.

The pedestrian was treated by Hall Ambulance and the Bakersfield City Fire Department, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
