CHP: Speed was factor in crash that killed 43-year-old on 99, Taft Highway

UPDATE (April 12, 2017 5:32 p.m.): The driver of the vehicle in the fatal crash has been identified as 43-year-old Erick Giovanni Gonzalez of Bakersfield.

UPDATE (8:52 a.m.): The CHP says the driver of this morning's deadly crash on the 99 and Taft Highway was a 43-year-old man. 

The CHP says the man was driving southbound on the 99 and was taking the off ramp at Taft Highway at "an unknown rate of speed". The driver "was unable to negotiate" a right curve and left the road, causing the car to roll over multiple times. 

The driver was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. . 

The CHP has said speed was a factor in the crash.

UPDATE (4:58 a.m.): CHP says the car in the crash overturned on the ramp of southbound 99 at Taft Highway, ejecting the driver.

One person is dead following a car accident on the Southbound 99 near Taft Highway.

According to CHP dispatch the accident happened just after 2:30 a.m. and that officials may close down the highway temporarily.
