One person is dead after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night just south of Lamont. 

It happened on Highway 184 and Buena Vista Road just after 9:30 p.m. 

The California Highway Patrol says they received a call of a car versus a power pole. When CHP arrived on scene, they found a pedestrian who had been hit about 1,000 ft. north of that pole. 

CHP says the driver of the car went on the wrong side of the road, hit the pedestrian and then struck the power pole after, then fled the scene. 

CHP eventually located the driver on Rose St., just south of Center Street. 

The driver was taken into custody. CHP says alcohol is a factor in this crash. 

CHP has not yet released the  name of the person who died.
