BAKERSFIELD, Calif — One person is dead after a vehicle vs pedestrian crash in Northwest Bakersfield

According to The Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded to the 2700 block of Calloway Drive just after 9:30 p.m.

After an investigation it was revealed that driver hit the man as he was crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk. The victim, identified by the Kern County Coroner as 40-year-old Daniel Santos Velasquez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Drugs, alcohol and speed are not factors in the collision.

According to the police department this is the 26th traffic collision this year within their jurisdiction.
