One person found dead inside an apartment in central Bakersfield

UPDATE (Sept. 6): KCSO identified the woman who passed inside her apartment during a fire as Billie Ruth Owens, 60. The cause of death was not released.

UPDATE (6:17 p.m.): Neighbors have identified that died in the apartment fire as Billie Owens.

UPDATE (5:09 a.m.): Bakersfield Police say the body that was found in the apartment fire was that of a woman. This is being investigated as a suspicious death.

UPDATE (4:51 a.m.): Bakersfield Police say the body is still inside the apartment. Investigators will likely be on scene another two hours.

One person was found dead inside an apartment after a fire broke out in central Bakersfield. 

The Bakersfield Police Department, Bakersfield Fire Department and the Kern County Fire Department were all called out to the 600 block of 33rd Street around 10:45 p.m. 

BPD says the investigation is ongoing.
