BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — As Santa Claus made his way to Bakersfield this morning, there were quite a few presents he had to withhold.

Over 50 people were arrested on Christmas Eve for various crimes, according to booking logs published by the Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

Fourteen arrests were made on Monday and three as of 4 a.m. on Christmas, the logs show.

Crimes including kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, and driving under the influence were among the listed offenses.

California Highway Patrol officials say their units will be on high patrol for DUI drivers through New Year's week.

In 2018, 60 people were arrested for driving under the influence, according to CHP.
