Students around Kern County are set to officially end their school year in the coming days, despite having not physically been in a classroom for more than two months.

With the end of the 2019-2020 school year on the horizon, school districts can now start looking to the next school year.

The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District has announced that it will begin the 2020-2021 school year on Aug. 12.

A message from one principal within the district to parents said, "While we do not know what school will look like when it reopens, we do know that the 2020-21 school year is officially scheduled to begin on August 12, 2020."

Earlier this month California Superintendent of Schools Tony Thurmond said it's likely that when schools reopen, staff and students would need to wear masks. He also said class sizes could potentially be smaller.
