A man killed while walking on southbound Interstate 5 has been identified as 44-year-old Michael Vanderdoes.

According to California Highway Patrol, he was walking in the lane around 3:40 p.m. on October 21 when he was hit and killed by a semi tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer told CHP that he had no time to react when he hit the man. The driver's big rig is being inspected.

A postmortem examination will be scheduled to determine Vanderdoes' cause and manner of death.
