Pedestrian struck and killed early Thursday morning in Bakersfield identified by the coroner

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Coroner has identified the woman who was struck and killed by a car in Bakersfield early Thursday morning in the 700 block of Union Avenue.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, at around 12:50 a.m. the woman, now identified as 40-year-old Bethany Ann Polhamus, was attempting to cross the road outside a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a car. Polhamus was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the accident and the driver was later released.

The investigation is ongoing.
