Dallas Peterman, 34, was hit and killed by a big rig a couple weeks ago.
He was a well-known traveler and documented his adventures through social media.
After the accident, his body was taken to a Shafter mortuary. His family drove from Arizona in order to pick him up and take him back home since he could not be embalmed due to his injuries.
They booked a night at a Bakersfield hotel and when they went to check on their car in the middle of the night, they found the trailer they were going to use to bring Dallas back was stolen.
Also inside the trailer were items of importance to the family.
They needed to rent a U-Haul in order to bring Dallas back home.
