Pier Fire east of Porterville burns over 30,000, 60 percent contained

UPDATE (Sept. 12, 2017 11 a.m.): The Pier Fire has now burned 30,390 acres and is 60% contained. 1,650 personnel are battling the blaze.

UPDATE (September 11, 2017 10:15 a.m.): The Pier Fire has now burned 27, 586 acres and is 60 percent contained.

The Pier Fire east of Porterville has burned 26,748 acres and is 55 percent contained as of Sunday morning.

The blaze started on August 29. near Highway 190 east of Springerville in Tulare County. A total of 1,800 people are working to battle the flames.

The following roads are closed to all traffic:

·         Cow Mountain Road at its intersection with Rio Vista Road

·         Highway 190 east of Springville is closed at Upper Rio Vista Road to eastbound traffic

·         Highway 190 north of Ponderosa is closed at Forest Road 21S50 to westbound traffic

No evacuation orders are currently in place.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials do know it was human-caused.
