Popeye's Chicken and Biscuits in Central Bakersfield was closed over the weekend due to cockroaches found on food contact surfaces, according to the Public Health Department.

The restaurant is located at 100 Chester Ave. near 1st Street.

On May 27, health employees found that multi-generational cockroaches were on food contact surfaces, walls, and floors. The facility was aware of the infestation.

Inspectors also found two cardboard boxes of raw chicken thawing on the floor, which was fixed on site.

The restaurant currently has an inspection score of 66%.
