Many people go to the Kern County Fair just to sample the food but one booth, in particular, has been a favorite since the '50s.

The baked potato booth run by the Boy Scouts of America has been a staple of the Kern County Fair since the 1950s. Some people wait up to 45 minutes in line to get their hands on one of these.

Unfortunately, this year the Kern County Fair has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But that isn't stopping the Southern Sierra Council from providing residents with their savory spuds.

The organization will be setting up potato booths later this month at The Bridge Church and Heidi's Deli, providing pre-order and drive-thru services.

Here are the dates and locations for the Potato Booths:

The Bridge Church: 12225 Stockdale Highway

  • Friday, September 25, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 26, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, October 2, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 3, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Heidi’s Deli: 2900 Calloway Drive

  • Friday, September 25, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 26, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, October 2, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 3, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition, the Southern Sierra Council is looking for Scouts and adults to help man the booths. If you are interested, you can find more information and a sign-up sheet online.
