PORTERVILLE, Calif. — Just days after two Porterville firefighters died battling a library fire, the Porterville Police Department is warning against scams soliciting donations for the firefighters' families.

According to a post on the department's Facebook page, they were notified "that donations are being solicited on behalf of the fallen Porterville Firefighters." The department said the City of Porterville Police and Fire Departments are not actively soliciting donations.

"The Porterville Fire Department has shared that the Tulare County Deputy Sheriff's Association is assisting with collecting donations for the fallen firefighters. If you wish to donate, you may do so by visiting tcdsa.net and click on the Porterville Fire Patch," the post said.

The department warned anyone who wishes to make a donation thoroughly check into each organization to which they are donating to ensure the item or money donated reaches the intended party.
