Nearly 2,000 people in northeast Bakersfield were without power early Sunday morning after a car hit a telephone pole and started an electrical fire, according to the Bakersfield Fire Department.
A car struck a pole on Paladino and Morning Drives just before 4 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
23ABC crews witnessed Bakersfield Police conduct a DUI test on the driver of the car. BPD confirmed it was a DUI crash.
The car caught fire. PG&E turned the power off in the area around 4:15 a.m. following the crash.
PG&E crews are on scene and power was restored around 6 a.m., according to their website.
