BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Music, prayer, and cries for justice made its way in front of the Delano City Hall on Sunday for a prayer vigil.

Many family members passionately asking for the community's help.
A somber crowd spread out with pictures of victims.

"When you take an innocent life, what you do is you leave shattered hearts, " said Pastor David Vivas, the organizer for the event.

Some of the speakers included community leaders, families, and loved ones of victims.

The Chief of Police of Delano, Robert Nevarez, addressed the crowd and shared the new tools to fight gang violence.

"We just approved and broaden a property ordinance that lets us go after property owners that stop caring about the properties and allow gang violence to exist," said Robert Nevarez, Chief of Delano Police.

Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer, too, was present sharing some startling statistics.

"In the first eight months of 2020, 25% of our murder victims have been children," said Zimmer.
