The District Attorney Lisa S. Green and Sheriff Donny Youngblood will be holding a press conference regarding the Public Integrity Unit's investigation leading to the Grand Jury's Indictment and arraignment of former sheriff's deputies, Logan August and Derrick Penney.

Derrick Penney and Logan August both appeared in court today on multiple felony counts. Both pleaded not guilty. Their trial is set for January 7, 2019.

Penney and Logan August were former KCSO deputy partners. The two pleaded guilty last year to stealing confiscated marijuana from KCSO and receiving profits from sales in 2014.

They worked with former Bakersfield Police detective Patrick Mara, who along with Damacio Diaz, ran a drug ring while members of the BPD. Mara and Diaz were sentenced to five years in prison. Penney and August were sentenced to probation.

Derrick Penney was arrested last week in Idaho on a "fugitive to Idaho" charge. He was booked into Kern County Jail. August turned himself into authorities last week and was being held in the Tulare County Jail.
