BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Those in support of opening local salons and small businesses took to the streets Friday protesting the current closures.

"We can work safe. That's the problem. We can work safe. And there's no reason for us not to be able to work. And this isn't just affecting the business owners, this is affecting their customers, their clients, like all the people," said Keasha Willingham.

Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh was in attendance, tweeting "Advocating for our hair salons to safely re-open. Thank you, #hairsalons, for your observance of safe and sanitary practices."

Last week Governor Gavin Newsom briefly touched on the topic of new guidance for reopening salons.
