BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — American Red Cross of Kern County is hosting a “Be Red Cross Ready” presentation focused on disaster preparedness at the Valley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

The presentation will be held at 4800 Fruitvale Ave, Bakersfield from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday.

“Preparedness starts with having a conversation and learning the basics,” Lori Wilson, executive director of the Kern County chapter said. “We know our neighbors want to be prepared for disasters, so we are glad to be able to help prepare Kern County.”

Red Cross volunteers say becoming “Red Cross Ready” for an emergency means following the steps below in advance to ensure you can weather a crisis safely and comfortably:

  • Get a Kit -- Learn the essential supplies to put in your family’s survival kit.
  • Make a Plan -- Plan effectively for you and your family in case of an emergency.
  • Be Informed -- Understand which disasters are likely to occur in your area and what you must know to stay safe.
