Republicans narrowly hold onto a congressional district in Ohio that hasn't gone to Democrats since the Reagan Administration. The race was so important that the President and even Congressman Kevin McCarthy hit the campaign trail this week.

McCarthy has been raising millions of dollars for the party and has been helping Balderson fundraise leading up to the special election in Ohio.

In a district that President Donald Trump won by double digits, a close race was held tonight between Republican Troy Balderson and Democrat Danny O'Connor for a replacement for Representative Pat Tiberi in Ohio's 12th District.

McCarthy shared his visit on Instagram, stating "In Ohio today campaigning for Troy Balderson to protect our majority."

Following Balderson's win, McCarthy shared a photo with Balderson, congratulating him.

Congratulations to Troy Balderson on his victory in Ohio 12th district

According to CNN, Tuesday's elections could provide a window into the direction of the Democratic Party as the 2020 presidential nominating contest gets underway and party leaders debate whether to embrace a more liberal platform in hopes of turning out voters who sat out the 2016 election or make a centrist turn to court moderates and Republicans who are alienated by Trump.
