One person is in custody following an apartment fire in East Bakersfield Tuesday morning.
According to Bakersfield Fire, the blaze broke out just after 9 a.m. on Niles Street near Haley.
After evacuating residents from the complex, some said someone was still inside.
An arson investigator went into the complex and found someone was locked in a bathroom. The arson investigator tried to get the man out, at which time the man came out and went after the investigator with a large hammer.
Bakersfield Police were called and took the man, who has been identified only as 35 years old, into custody.
Damages have been estimated at $20,000.
