A man arrested on Monday in Ridgecrest for the murder of his next-door-neighbor will appear in court on Wednesday.

On Aug. 20, KCSO deputies responded to a domestic violence disturbance call and located a woman who was suffering from severe head lacerations. The injured female told KCSO that her husband, Jose Romero, 62, assaulted her with a handgun.

She was able to get away with the help of her neighbors. After responding to the home, deputies asked Romero to exit the home and he did with a rifle in his hand. They asked him to drop the rifle and he did.

Deputies then attempted to arrest Romero but he resisted. With the help of Ridgecrest police officers they were able to arrest him.

Deputies found a dead woman next door and determined that after his wife ran out into the neighborhood, Romero went out looking for her and shot their neighbor.

His wife was treated for moderate head injuries.

Romero is facing charges of murder, attempt murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and spousal abuse.
