The Bakersfield Police Department has a new furry friend in the ranks.

BPD's newest addition is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois by the name of Rocco. The police canine will work with Officer Jonathan Berumen.

Rocco is a replacement canine to a recently retired canine. The purchase was made possible by a donation from local resident Pamela Clark, who also provided funds to purchase Rocco a new ballistic vest.

Police canines average four to six years of service.
