The Rosemond football team was still mourning Thursday night, just one week after one of their own accidentally shot himself.
Fourteen-year-old Al McCraig was a freshman on the JV football team who was handling a loaded gun when the accident happened.
On Thursday, the team played their first home game since the tragedy. The players honored McCraig with a moment of silence and then released dozens of red and white balloons.
During the game, the school also hosted a fundraiser selling things like blankets and sweaters. All of the money is going to the team’s family.
McCraig’s teammates and coaches are still in shock and say they’ll miss his smile and personality the most.
Rosamond JV football went on to beat Tehachapi 48-13.
