Runners dress up as their favorite characters in the Monster Mash Dash

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Monsters from their slab did rise, when they finished the race they got a surprise. Sunday morning it was a graveyard smash, for those who ran in the inaugural Monster Mash Dash.

Bakersfield Classic Events put on their first annual Halloween-themed run at the Park at River Walk. The Monster Mash Dash encouraged runners to get in the Halloween spirit early and to run in an array of costumed in their 5K run/walk and Little Monster Dash.

The race costed $40 to participate. Runners got a participants got a haunted house medal, glow in the dark shirt and competed in the costume contest. There was a costume contest winner for nine years old and under, children ten and up, adults, and team costume. Proceeds from the Monster Mash Dash go to the Make a Wish Foundation.

This is one in a series of 5Ks and fun runs to get people motivated and prepared for the Bakersfield Marathon. Runners who signed up for the holiday trifecta runs, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, will receive a special snow globe medal.
