Helicopter search underway for woman last seen possibly going into Kern River

Update (10:10 a.m.): Kern County Sheriff's officials said they are looking for a 34-year-old Hispanic woman who possibly went into the Kern River at around 8 p.m. Monday night. 

KCSO said they were told the woman got a flat tire while driving through the Kern Canyon then got a ride into Bakersfield before getting a ride back to her car. 

A friend says they saw the woman jump into the Kern River. KCSO officials say they were told the woman has a history of mental illness.

An air search began Monday night and that search for the woman is still ongoing. 

Search and Rescue crews are not going into the river because it is too dangerous.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team is on the scene in the Mouth of the Canyon on Tuesday morning.

According to KCSO, crews are possibly dealing with the the rescue of a woman in the Kern River, about a half mile east of of the Mouth of the Canyon.
