Kern County Search and Rescue (SAR) is a completely volunteer-based organization dedicated to saving lives. All members volunteer their time and in addition, all supplies used are either donated or purchased with donated funds.

There are ten SAR teams throughout Kern County. Some, like China Lake, Tehachapi and Glennville, are area-based. Others, like the dive team and K9 team, are skill-based.

The Kern Valley team is made up of about 30 people who do anything from river to mountain to city rescues. In 2017, they responded to 98 call outs and donated 14,087 hours.
