The search continues Tuesday morning for a man who went missing over the weekend in the Kern River. Officials said he was trying to save a child.

According to Kern County Search and Rescue just after 2 p.m. Sunday a 35-year-old man jumped in to save an 11-year-old boy who was clinging to a log to stay above water. Officials say the man was able to throw the boy over the log to safety before getting taken down the river himself.

That boy is now safe.

The search for the man began with the Kern Valley Search and Rescue team starting to look for him at 8 a.m. Monday and ending for the day at about seven p.m.

The Kern Valley Search and Rescue team will continue their search until at least Friday.
