BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County coroner has identified 30- year-old Rodney Hodge as the second victim in a deadly shooting that happened exactly one month ago in Central Bakersfield.
Bakersfield police said on June 23 they responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 4200 Tierra Verde around 12:40 a.m. When they arrived on the scene they found Hodge suffering from gun shot wounds. Hodge was listed in critical condition but according to officials he died on July 23 at a private residence-- exactly one month after the shooting.
Officials confirmed that another victim, Jerry Lana Hastings, showed up at Memorial Hospital with multiple gun shot wounds. Hastings was then taken to Kern Medical where he died from his injuries.
A postmortem examination was performed and the cause of death is complications of multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death is homicide.
