Security video has been released of a suspect riding up to a vehicle on a bicycle and stealing an oxygen tank (needed for COPD) from vehicle then going to other cars around trying to break in.
This happened in The Oaks neighborhood on March 4th at about 10:15 p.m.
The man who submitted the video said that there has been an abundance of videos in The Oaks area and they need to make people aware of the events.
Sgt. Gary Carruesco with the Bakersfield Police Department said, "We have seen a slight increase in burglaries in and around that area to include much of the 93309/93311 zip codes. We focused a lot of our efforts in those affected areas, which resulted in nine arrests for burglary, auto theft and receiving stolen property. As a result, Detectives were able to clear numerous open cases that these individuals were responsible for."
Carruesco said that the theft captured in the video was from an unlocked vehicle and that it's hard to say if these suspects were responsible for that offense but it is possible.
Any identifiable evidence that was seized by our officers will be returned to the owners. The community was instrumental in helping the police department identify and arrest these individuals.
