Three Kern County businesses have reopened following closure by the health department for a variety of reasons, including active vermin infestations, rodent droppings, and sewage backflow.

The El Paisano Restaurant & Bakery in Taft received a 90% during a follow-up inspection of the business. In the report the health department noted the business "corrected" an issue of rodents and rodent droppings, among other issues.

Last week the business had its permit suspended after receiving a 66% for "unsanitary conditions." According to the health department, the facility remained open during "an active vermin infestation." Inspectors also found uncovered food in a walk-in and food being stored directly on the ground.

Fred's Grocery and Deli in Taft was also closed due to unsanitary conditions but has since reopened.

Inspectors said the deli corrected issues such as multiple rodents, as well as rodent droppings. The deli now has a 90% from the health department.

In addition, the Greenfield Market in Bakersfield is reopened sewage backflow in a food preparation area, as well as sewage overflow in the front food prep area and meat department. The market corrected those issues and received a 92% from the health department during a follow-up inspection.
