Angela Simpkins was riding on the subway during the explosion in Chelsea, NY.
She graduated from Shafter High School and is currently a senior NYU.
She says a friend of hers texted her and asked if she was safe. At the time she did not know anything had happened.
Immediately, Angela contacted her family back in Shafter and told them that she was safe and away from danger.
"Call all of my relatives and tell them that I'm ok and I'm safe and sound and I'd made it back home alright. They were pretty frantic, my dad actually had no idea."
Officials say it was a pressure cooker bomb that caused the explosion.
After reflecting on the attack, Angela hopes people will come together, rather than divide.
"Everything is really crazy right now in the world and I feel like everybody could just use a lot more kindness.
