Since October 2015, the city of Shafter has been plagued by a suspect who has been breaking into stores in the downtown commercial district at night, causing damage, and stealing money and items.
In that time span, twelve different stores were burglarized.
The Shafter Police Department worked relentlessly to try to solve these cases.
The Department utilized unmarked cars, walked the beats, patrolled in plain clothes, worked the area in cold weather conditions, conducted follow up investigations, and concentrated their efforts on apprehending the suspect.
Due to all the efforts, the suspect was finally arrested after he broke into a business and attempted to steal money out of the cash register.
Responding officers surrounded the business and arrested the suspect.
Through the investigation, it was determined the suspect, Ricardo Garcia, 19 years old of Shafter, was responsible for the other burglaries as well.
This case is still under investigation.
