There are new faces for Bakersfield’s city council as two incumbents are knocked out of their positions.
Andrae Gonzales and Jeff Tkac both won their respective city council positions in ward 2 and ward 5.
Gonzales is a six year BCSD school board member. He beat incumbent Terry Maxwell to take the ward two race by roughly 18% percent.
Tkac is a 21 year member of the city's planning commission and reserve BPD officer, edging out long time councilmember Harold Hanson winning the ward 5 position by 25 percent.
Andrae Gonzales’ top three goals as councilmember are revitalizing downtown, working on the homeless problem in his ward and neighborhood revitalization. He says he's looking forward to working with his fellow councilmembers.
Tkac wants to focus on public safety and traffic violations in his ward. His plan includes implementing things like the Nextdoor app and neighborhood watch programs.
Both men promise to be active in their wards and say they're excited to get started.
Gonzales and Tkac will be sworn into their positions at the city council meeting on December 14th.
