A 69-year-old woman faces first-degree murder charges for allegedly shooting and killing her own son.

According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, 31-year-old Brian Rush was found with at least one gunshot wound in the 6600 block of Franklin Avenue in East Bakersfield on Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m..

Deputies found him on the porch and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rush's mom, 69-year-old Joice Rush, was taken into custody and booked into the Sheriff's Office Central Receiving Facility.

Neighbors said they are not surprised that the shooting occurred and there were often shouting matches between Joice and Brian.

One neighbor added that he would often see Brian in his backyard, hopping fences to other yards.

Brian has been in jail for nine different misdemeanor cases and four felony cases. Many of the charges are for grand theft and possession of stolen vehicles and controlled substances.

Joice is being held without bail.

She's scheduled to be in court Thursday afternoon.
