A man and a woman were shot in northwest Bakersfield early Sunday morning, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Police said they received a call about a shooting in the area of Calloway Dr. and Brimhall Rd. just before 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
Authorities said both victims suffered minor injuries. Witnesses tell 23ABC that the woman was shot in the leg.
Detectives said the woman was transported to the hospital by ambulance and the man was driven to the hospital by an unknown party.
Police said it is unknown what led to the shooting.
It happened in the parking lot of the Elixir Hookah Lounge.
On Wednesday the Bakersfield City Council’s Legislative and Litigation Committee will hear a proposal recommending that hookah lounges follow the same guidelines as bars. The new ordinance would mean that hookah lounges would have to close at 2 a.m. versus 4 a.m.
23ABC spoke with the owner of Elixir lounge who said the change would hurt his business because they receive the majority of their revenue between the hours of 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.
Police said no arrests have been made and the suspect, described as a man in his twenties, 5’4”-5’9”, was last seen running southbound on Calloway Dr.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department.
