Sister saves siblings in Hoodsport Ave. fire

A 16 year old girl saved her family from a house fire on Hoodsport  Ave. Monday morning.
 
KCFD officials said at around 11:55AM, they received a call of a fire in the 8700 block of Hoodsport Ave. 
Kern County Fire officials said a six year old boy lit a mattress on fire inside one of bedrooms in the residence. 
 
Four children (a 6-year-old boys, 9-year-old boy, 11-year-old- girl and a 16-year-old girl) were able to safely evacuate the home prior to the arrival of firecrews.
 
KCFD's first arriving crew encountered a room and contents fire contained to a single bedroom.
 
The fire was quickly extinguished and monitored for extension.
 
The damage was isolated to the bedroom, causing an estimated $10,000 loss. 
 
The 6-year-old who caused the fire will be required to attend the Juvenile Fire Setter Program with a parent.
 
KCFD officials said the 16 year old female was alerted by a working smoke alarm.
 
She quickly helped get her two brothers and sister out of the home and then dialed 9-1-1.
