Fire crews are mopping up after a small brush fire spread 8.7 acres in Keene earlier this afternoon. 

Officials say the fire broke out just before 12:30 p.m. in the area of Caliente Bodfish Road just south of Walker Basin.  Crews said the fire moved quickly into the canyon and threatened homes at Rankin Ranch. According to the Kern County Fire Department crews were able to put out the fire with the help of air tankers and a task force strike team. There were no reports of injuries, or damages to any structures and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
